I thought this book would burn out after awhile but pushing through page by page I seem to have gotten addicted. So far in my book, its Lily's birthday. her father being stubborn and not letting her do anything, she leaves for a walk across town with their maid Rosaleen. Doesn't sound like much of a birthday does it? Well to Lily it means the world to her to get out for her birthday and so far shes enjoying every second. A thing I noticed though is that there is a tad of racism (the books setting dates back to 1964 so it ties in). At times the racism can be a bit instigating it adds more volume if you wanna to the characters who deal with it like Rosaleen for example. Lily and Rosaleen stop in the church on the hot day to cool off; soon the preacher saw them both and he didn't look to happy to see Rosaleen.
"Then he saw Rosaleen and started to rub the bald space on his head with such agitation I thought he might rub down to the skull bone." in this quote it shows the preacher is agitated or uncomfortable with Rosaleen's presence which lily can clearly see. another incident is when lily and Rosaleen go to this place so Rosaleen can vote and three men harass Rosaleen saying racial slurs (ones better off not typed in quote due to its nature and controversy) lily tried her best to protect Rosaleen but she was too stubborn and spoke back to the men. I had to cut off there cause I don't wanna spoil too much but this book deals with a lot and I absolutely love it!

Why We Broke Up
"Its not you its me." Too any teenager (with a social life) these are the worst words you could ever hear from your boyfriend or girlfriend besides the other common quote "I'm pregnant" (Yikes!). In my new book I'm reading called Why We Broke Up. Its about a girl (who I later found out is called min) gives her boyfriend or soon to be Ex-Boyfriend a letter explaining why they are breaking up. She also leaves this box with different knick knacks that she kept over the course of there relationship (she explains in the letter how they all tie together). So far what I come to in the book is pretty good and I enjoy it. My ABSOLUTE favorite quote so far int he book has to be “I'm writing it in a letter, the whole truth of why it happened. And the truth is that I goddamn loved you so much.”
― Daniel Handler, Why We Broke Up. It describes how hard it is for her to write this letter because she dearly loved him but she feels breaking up with him this way is the best for him and her. I cant wait to read more and I will be sure to update soon!

The secret life of bees
Cruising the book shelf in my English teachers classroom I saw a book that looked oh so familiar. It was called The Secret Life of Bees. Its about this young girl who's mother sadly dies when she is 4 years. her death is vague to her but her father or T ray as she calls him for some strange reason. This books setting is dated back to 1964 back when black and whites didn't have the same Rights so it has some historical factors to it. Lily (the main character) then leaves with these African American girls who teach her the property of life and to be a strong independent woman.
So far what I have gotten out the book has been amazing its not what you expect from it. I truly feel sad for the girl as if shes really real and if a book can make you feel that emotion its worth reading. As i read further into the book I've grown to love and learn the characters (Even T ray even though he's quite difficult and simpleminded) I cant wait to read more of this amazing book.
